Capsule Collection: Part 1

By now, most people are aware of the overwhelming amount of waste and damage to our environment that the fashion industry produces worldwide each year. Coupling this with the well researched concept that too much stuff can create mental and emotional chaos in our lives, it’s time to harness our wardrobes, reign things in a bit, and learn that more rarely means better.

In this course, students will learn the basics of building a capsule wardrobe, as well as managing an existing one. Resisting the urge to buy, buy, buy, we will work on shifting our perspectives and thoughts on what it means to be timeless in a world of fast-fashion. And, we will not pass judgement on each other. After all, we are all trying to do better- that’s why we’re here!

Class structure:

Part one is a series of four classes held on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 - 3:30 in our studio space on the farm. Class size will be capped at four participants.

The first class will be spent discussing the current state of our wardrobes, navigating our goals and desires around decluttering our closets, and learning about capsule wardrobes, fabrics, and patterns.

The next three classes will be spent constructing 2-3 garments that are progressively more challenging. Patterns will be selected from a pre-defined list of options in a range of styles. If other patterns are desired, they must be approved for this class prior to the first session.

Before the second class, students must purchase fabric and notions for the patterns they select. Machines, tools, and basic supplies will be provided by the studio.

**There are four parts to this series, of which, students may choose to complete all or one. Parts 2, 3, and 4 will be taught later this year, with a new round beginning in 2022.

We will strive to create tailored learning plans for each participant based in their skill level and style while adhering to the purpose of the course.
